So Connor and I are driving home from church this morning talking about eternity, salvation and Heaven and he asks me "Mom, do animals go to Heaven?" We just started talking it through when the biggest turkey I have ever seen takes off for flight right in front of me. They are huge birds and take some time getting off the ground... as it turns out not enough time for me to stop completely. I am easing on the brakes being as safe as I can and it happens, we collide! He hit the windshield and with a small splat it was over. I am not sure if he made it or not but he did not land behind us so I am hopeful. It might have just been our imagination, but right after we collided Connor and I smelled the strangest thing, I hate to say it but it kind of smelled like turkey, is that even possible?? We are so lucky that it did not come through the windshield or force us off the road - WOW, nothing like that has ever happened to me, it was scary!
So I am still not sure if I know the answer to "do animals go to Heaven." If they do, and this turkey did not make it through our mishap, I hope he is there now!
Oh man you and Theresa are both bird killers! I hope the turkey went to heaven.
ReplyDeleteI thought as a teenager in a Camarro that you had hit everything a person could hit. You know other cars, your sister's parked car, and of course the split rail fence among everything else. You have apparently taken it to a new level with flying objects. You are lucky that it didn't come through the windshield. The splat and the smell was probably natural turkey stuffing or what you might call poop. I'll bet that Conner will never eat stuffing now.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously have not fully adapted to the southern life style. Since you were just coming from church the turkey was obviously a gift from the Lord, and intended as Sunday dinner. If you would have sped up a little when you saw the bird you would have hit him with the bumper thereby obtaining dinner without damage to your car. Of course a seasoned southern car hunter would have attained the proper speed to insure the bird would be hit by the grille, and would be stuck there all the way home. The heat from the engine would have gone a long way in cooking the bird.
As far as your question about animals going to heaven, I'm not sure. I think that's a question for your sister or maybe even Lauren.
Does this mean that Thanksgiving dinner is in the freezer already? I had heard that Turkeys can fly, but I didn't think they were able to get as high as a windshield. Of course turkeys go to heaven. I think their section is called " Butterball Acres"
ReplyDeleteLOL...glad no one (other than maybe a turkey) was hurt. My other SIL got hit by a deer a while back..yes the deer hit her! It ran right into the side of her car and made a big huge dent! I don't think I ever heard if the deer made it or not. Maybe the deer and the turkey are in God's computer room reading this post together right now!
ReplyDeleteWe went fishing today in Virginia and the city the lake was in was called clarksville. And i have to say, it looked like a town where if you got hit by a turky, you would of gone out side, picked up the turkey, set in the truck next to your shotgun, then when you got home you cook then eat it. It was a cool town. But suprisingly, we olny saw 1 rebel flag. It was very shocking.

Wow, quite a story! I believe God lets animals in Heaven. Lauren believes it for sure. I'm not sure I can ever eat turkey again. I'm sure not going to tell Ellie, as turkey is the only meat she will eat!
